Django Vs. Django
I haven't seen it, but I plan to if it hangs around long enough in theaters. The film certainly has done its best to divide the critics and the fans. Tarantino is one of those iconic filmmakers who are constantly over-deconstructed. I think most often, his goal is to make a fun, uber-geek genre flick, and not to do any sort of super-deep, transcendent art. Apparently, he is exactly what he appears to be, a somewhat juvenile cinema super-fan with an eye for the best of all the movies he's ever seen. To think that he has some grand, important statement to make about the state of America or American history is way over-thinking it. And besides, Tarantino could have managed to turn Django Unchained into a unanimously awful film by putting Paul Giamatti in it, and he didn't. So, there's that.
