Let's Watch Harry Reid Not Reform The Filibuster
He doesn't really want to. He'd rather not take the hit with the Democratic base for failing to do something useful, but the status quo is working out pretty nicely for him these days, and reforming the filibuster in the Senate would make Harry Reid and the rest of the Democratic Senators responsible for actually accomplishing something in the 113th Congress. Who wants that? Not Harry Reid. Not the Democratic leadership in the Senate. The Senate rules make progressive change very difficult, which is the whole point of having a Senate in the first place. If Harry Reid had the balls to get rid of the filibuster, then the Senate would become way more democratic, and that would pretty much obviate the need for the Senate. The Senate is an ultimate protector of wealth and privilege; reducing the ability of an intractable, reactionary minority, or any single Senator of any party, to protect wealth and privilege in America destroys the primary purpose of the World's Worst Deliberative Body. Look for Reid to work closely with Bitch McConnell to formulate some sort of non-reform that can be used by both the Democrats and Republicans in the Senate to pretend that they have made rule changes for the better when in fact they have protected the ability of each and every Senator to be a faithful servant of the American ruling class.
