Virag's Movie Reviews: Ted (2012)
You know that irritatingly long episode of Family Guy with swearing? Yeah, Ted is that one. And it is ridiculously distracting to have Seth MacFarlane doing Peter Griffin the whole time as Ted. It's his movie, so couldn't he have come up with a unique voice? Casting Marky Mark is always a way to bring the whole production down; if you pick a real actor, it's always better, and Marky Mark is just terrible. Of course, MacFarlane didn't go all the way to shit town and cast Paul Giamatti, but Marky Mark sucks in everything he's in. The background cast was just okay; Meg seems good at first, but in anything as long as a movie, she's pretty much invisible by the end. Giovanni Ribisi is apparently the go-to guy these days for pointless and pointlessly weird scenery-chewing, and Capt. Picard is an upgrade as Stewie. There were a few laughs in Ted, but the entire enterprise had a naughty tv vibe to it. This garbage was one of the biggest films of last year. That is a cruel indictment of America.
