Duncan Atrios Black Gets It On Social Security, Atmo
Duncan MacLeod of the clan MacLeod Black, aka Atrios, has been on fire with his Social Security schtick recently, and this is an incredibly important issue that will have long-term ramifications for the entire society and the economy as a whole. As Black helpfully points out in USA Today, the Great Recession has exposed the inherent flaws in the asinine 401K experiment and destroyed the retirements and standards of living for most middle- and lower-class Americans. The politics of an immediate 20%+ increase in SS benefits could be huge for savvy Democrats, but since the Village Idiot consensus on Social Security is that since it is not a big deal to TV millionaires and every other upper class twit, it is not a big deal to anyone. That's just dumb politics, sure, but it is evil and cruel as social policy, because the failure of private pensions and Social Security stinginess will sentence millions of Americans to suffering and death in old age. For the wealthiest nation in the history of the galaxy, that is not merely an outrage. Atrios deserves props for using his platform for more than crass commercialism.
