there's nothing of magic in this shining pearl

the cracks are beginning to show.  this is not going to end well.  most days it appears the best we can hope for is that we manage to crumble relatively peacefully and not take the rest of the world with us, but you don't build a bigger military than the rest of the world combined without using it all before you disappear.  we will fuck everyone else rather than die gently.
