winter's coming and a young man's fancy turns to single speed 29ers

yep, it happens like the end of daylight savings time.  throughout the land, good people of every color and creed contemplate the rigid single speed 29er.  it's a worthwhile pursuit; getting on those things is big fun and quite a different ride than a 26" wheel single speed with a suspension fork.  at the human centipede salon velocipede salon, there was a thread and they brought up 650b, custom vs. stock vs. entry level like the kona unit, but those threads are popping up all over the interwebs these days.  for me, i think the kona is a great deal and konas are sold by all the best bike shops.  but...the eastern woods 29er frame is a sweet frame--and the geometry is pretty wicked good for me.  otherwise, if the entry-level bikes are a little to chintzy for your refined tastes, or you're just a 1% dick with lots o' cash, then custom is the way to go.  curtlos are fantastic frames at any price; waltworks is a godfather; quiring flys under the radar; steve garro is a framebuilding folk hero.  forget the no-name chinese garbage with a fancy paintjob and go for a nice handmade steel bigwheel.
