Not breaking news: Jonathan Chait is a fatuous neolib pissboy. But what is worse is that he so fucking dumb that he doesn't know that Bernie is a boring anodyne centrist, NOT any kind of leftist at all. Chait is a truly stupid man, married to a charter school grifter, so he probably does really believe that people are not in favor of single-payer healthcare which outlaws private insurance. It's not true and insanely wrong, but it doesn't matter. Chait is an establishment tool. Just for fun, Matt Taibbi kicks Chait when he is down.
Libertarian boy and Reason magazine alum and current Bezos Post denizen Dave Weigel also thinks that the progressive, centrist democrats got "rinsed" in 2018, which is bullshit. Weigel should know better, but...well, he probably doesn't. The House districts and races where Bernie-type Dem candidates ran were not equivalent to the winning districts where the right-wing Dems won, even if Hildos are too dumb to understand that. Five years, 10 years from now, the Justice Dems and the Our Revolution Dems and the other center-left Dems will be much more successful and will win in the most competitive districts. This leftward swing in the Democratic Party is just getting started--and certainly the upstart center-left candidates would have won all those blue districts also if the reactionary Dem establishment had backed their candidacies the same way they backed the establishment candidates; those more-left candidates were only set loose in the least likely districts to flip. They were set up to lose in order to bolster this bullshit narrative, AND hard-right Hildo Dems would have lost every single seat that the centrist Bernie-type Dems lost as well.. Chait and Weigel aren't sharp enough to process that, but fuck 'em.
