Of course not, but using mass production of food as a laboratory experiment is probably not a good idea.  This is your government at work, and the work might be one of the few very important things we do in the short term.  The FDL post references 1977 as a time when the effects of rampant drug use in food animals was noted; that's a long frakking time, but that's really no excuse not to do whatever we can right fucking now!  Government infected with teabaggers and other reactionary assholes doesn't do sane or logical or scientific well at all, but we are counting on a sort of miracle, I guess.
