By Politico of all things. The Trump experts make a bunch of really decent, obvious, points about Trump and the campaign, as these are people who have been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about Trump this year. But the thing really gets rolling when they start to into consideration of the political economy, literally, beyond the September-October-November run-up to the election. How does the media progress after the election? What do the parties look like? Who will gain the power--and make the money--from an embarrassingly epic Trump presidential campaign defeat? What does that world look like and how is it different from the one we are living in today? They barely scratched that, mostly because that crew really wasn't up to the task, but somebody's gonna win this round of the game.
What they didn't talk about, as they all agreed Trump really couldn't win, was what it would be like if he won. And they're right: Trump can't win. But he might. I don't think Russia or China or the UK or Germany or Japan or Israel or even Saudi Arabia would risk engineering a Trump victory with a perfectly-timed terrorist incident--they actually have something to lose if they fuck it up and can't outwit an unhinged, violent fascist President Trump 100% of the time--but what if those stupid fuckers in Syria or Iraq or Afghanistan have one more decent shot in 'em? The exceptional USA has made a shit ton of exceptional enemies over the last 125 or so years, and this would be the best chance any of them have ever had to defeat the GREAT SATAN! An attack the Sunday before election day could deliver the White House to Trump and effectively destroy America. That might take the rest of the world with it, but what the fuck do those crazy motherfuckers in ISIS have to lose?
