this insanity from imani gandy at balloon juice
is not obama's biggest weakness, but it is still a huge problem for our
country. if you read that nonsense that gandy wrote and then most of
the comments, you will see the terrible weakness of people who just
can't tell fantasy from reality. imagine a whitehouse filled with such
soft-headed, true-believing sycophants ready to deflect blame and
responsibility away from the administration each and every time. that's
the world obama's living in right now. he can be the world's biggest
pussy, and his enablers like angry black lady will tell him he's a
titan.
no, obama's biggest weakness is obama himself. he's a coward. or he's a
mindless servant of the corporate class. either way, he's useless.
when you are president of the united states and a democrat and the
biggest victories of your first three years are hilda solis, some gay
army stuff and the possibility of birth control pills with no copay, you
are well and truly fucked and taking the rest of us to hell with you.
it is much easier to blame jane hamsher, cenk uygur and the professional
left than the man who actually has some power and even the elected
office of the presidency. no, when barack obama refuses to punch john
boehner in the balls, it's the fault of the interwebs. of course it
is. that's some sharp thinking there, folks.
imani gandy and her ilk on display on that
balloon juice
thread are the worst of america, and every bit as bad as those koch
brothers and their racist teabagging crackers. well, maybe not quite,
but still pretty fucking bad.
as linked on
counterpunch,
here's noam chomsky in the
guardian making far too much sense to be speaking to an american paper. the
guardian is a world treasure, as is prof. chomsky.
juan cole has been nothing but a voice of disinformation on lybia and
the middle east in general. his purported liberal credentials cause
many to unquestioningly accept his analysis despite the fact that he is
solidly on the side of empire and intervention. once again, counterpunch kicks this fraud in the teeth with a sparkling piece by john v. walsh.
tonight, lawrence o'donnell managed to fluff fdr with the help of new
msnbc fluffer chris hayes. the clip he showed of fdr doing something
obama would never do, telling the american people that the republicans
are vile assholes not worthy of your vote, was nothing but sad when
compared to our current predicament.
i'm not sure they're doing these anymore, and i'm not sure what the
point was in the first place, but if you wanted to make a lugged, steel
frame and have it not look like every other lugged frame out there, this
is certainly one way. this particular example looks very nice in those
colors, too. i wonder if it's a circle a-built or a craig-built? how
is this better than the standard aluminium gaulzetti corsa?
this fucking thing from
justin spinelli
is so not my usual bag but looking at it makes me wonder. of course,
it's not custom and it's asian; i have no idea how much it is, but i'm
sure the exact same frame is available at a fraction of the price if you
look around. it's really neat, though. very good looking and super
sano. probably comparable to the santa cruz and niner carbon
hardtails. i'd probably get a custom
curtlo rigid ss 700c big wheel mountain bike, anyway.
the serotta forum is a pathetic
but mostly harmless poser circle jerk, but the politics on show in that
train wreck are ugly to the core. the important fact is this: the
serotta forum is a self-selected representation of upper-middle class
privilege. for the most part, these people who gather there have plenty
of disposable income and the political positions borne of overall
ignorance along with koch brothers talking points, talk radio, and
heritage foundation fact sheets mixed with liberal quantities of general
stupidity. certainly there are a few on show who do not subscribe to
such idiocy, but they are mostly silent cowards or mealy-mouthed
appeasers in the mold of barack obama. during the fukushima meltdown,
the serotta forum was graced with heartland institute and heritage foundation
press releases telling us there was no way the plants would leak
radiation and that nuclear power was safe in general. you can always
hear from the supposed financial planner explaining how taxes are mostly
paid by the rich; the alleged business owner will tell you that
democrats are bad for business so he will not invest until a republican
is elected; an asshole who inherited his money from his dad will post
some unattributed stats showing that the minimum wage causes
unemployment; someone who claims they are a health care worker will
explain that any health reform will harm patients; a purported canadian
tells the group that everyone he knows goes to america for treatment
because the canadian system is broken; someone who might be from europe
explains that only in america can you be free; an ignorant grad student
will bring up the salience of ayn rand's genius and post after post will
pop with totally unironic agreement. there's shitloads of disgusting
mindless worship of authority, the military, the police state and
israel. anytime the timid opposition comes out the discussion is
stopped because shining a light on the stupidity is absolutely not
allowed.
there's no real way to stand up to that in such an environment; the
disgusting political climate of the serotta forum is a feature and not a
bug. the company depends on that self-selected customer base of
politically conservative self-satisfied provincials with abundant money
to buy their bikes. experienced riders, bike-industry insiders,
middle-class enthusiasts and cosmopolitan cycling novices will spend
their money elsewhere 100% of the time.
real bike riders, and especially racers and enthusiasts, don't ride
serottas.
at least not in a coupla decades. serottas used to be race bikes, and
now they are wicked overpriced abortions sold to idiots who have way too
much money and way too little experience or taste. for literally half
the price, you can find something
better, and if you wanna spend what a serotta requires, you can do something
insane.
but you have understand what is better, and why the price you would pay
for a serotta is beyond dear, it's stupid. that's not the funny shit,
though; serotta has had about a billion business models in the past 20
years, and they'll probably be out of business soon as economy washes
away like a vermont covered bridge.
there's a self-selected group of people who mostly don't know what makes
a good bike, a good value or even good sense, and it's called
the serotta forum.
the bike stuff is easy: many of those people buy bikes instead of
riding them. if you watch for a long time--and i have cuz i'm the sort
of fella who actually rides a bike and don't own dozens of them i don't
ride, as well as the kind of guy who likes to make fun of idiots--you
will see some of the most ridiculously expensive bikes, serottas and
others, shown off, drooled over and their ride qualities and magic
materials extolled breathlessly by the peanut gallery, and then after a
few months, these same frames will be sold with 10 miles on them. the
jerk that bought them never rode them, and he probably never rides
anything at all! all of the nonsense about how much faster they are,
how well they ride and the tough racing they've seen is all bullshit.
nobody ever brings that up. nobody ever says, 'hey, you've had that
bike 6 months and told everybody you rode the shit out of it! how come
it's only got 10 miles?' chances are the bike will be sold to another
serotta forum member who will also never ride it! it looks like many on
that board don't actually ride much if at all; it's a
self-congratulation machine, also known as a cirlce jerk.
a few years back there was a guy who bought a ton of expensive bikes and
posted long, wordy reviews of their construction, materials, ride
qualities and strengths. this guy had some very rare and expensive
bikes:
richard sachs,
nagasawa,
dave kirk,
tommasini,
pegoretti
and even serotta. he shoveled the bullshit long and hard, and they
just ate it up. well, it turns out the guy had ridden maybe 50 miles in
his life and had a physical condition that prevented him from riding a
racing bike at all. none of the usual posters ever called him on it
though; some of them were framebuilders who wanted his business and many
of the others were just as full of shit as he was.
three years ago, the serotta forum lost many of their actual riders and
all of their most famous framebuilders when those rebels acknowledged
they were the cool kids and gave up all pretensions that the serotta
forum wasn't full of chubby losers, so they formed their own community
that was invitation only, mostly to keep the idiots from the serotta
forum who dressed in zebra-striped lycra skinsuits but rode very slowly
far away from their lunch table. this group was the rockstars and the
groupies, leaving the serotta forum with the small fish and obvious
bullshitters.
why does msnbc employ a turd like michael smerconish?
he's been an absolute brainless conservative and hateful,
antidemocratic demagogue forever, but i guess his willful desire to
fluff obama a little bit gets him props on the general electric news
channel. worst of all though, is that smerconish is a proven liar as well as a hateful racist piece of shit. perfect for teabaggers and msnbc alike!
unlike doctor who, the new top gear is just as entertaining as ever,
with those ridiculous fucking limey assholes dancing like well-paid
bucktoothed monkeys for our amusement.
btw, american top gear will always suck; give it up.
hee hee. lots of folks are noting that dick cheney really hates him the
african american, even the toady, uncle-toms like colin powell and
condi rice. too bad cheney was always such an uncharismatic troll
because the teabaggers woulda loved them some dick.
this new doctor who is really just lame. i don't know what it is
exactly. i liked moffat's writing for doctor who under rtd, especially
the
empty child/doctor dances episode, but now that he's the
showrunner, the whole exercise seems tedious and less important than
previously. matt smith doesn't help either; he's almost weightless, and
when compared to david tennant, that's really quite a feat. alex
kingston is really chewing the scenery, but she's also wasted at this
point, with even less chemistry with smith than with tennant. she would
have been awesome with eccleston, but he fancies himself an actual
actor or something, so fuck him. the entire exercise is lifeless with
this crew. nobody's gonna care when rory gets wasted. it'll be doing
him a favor. perhaps the show will survive moffat's reign of terror;
it's been through worse, i guess.
this is a question i haven't seen too much, thought with the hurricane
and floods and power outages and shit, it's been a slow news week. who
wrote the book? it wasn't the saggy old dick, that's obvious. so who's
the actual writer, the way john fund wrote limbaugh's books back in the
day?
