One Year Ago Today

the world's finest bourbon

sophie.

1992 bridgestone mb-1

this was one.  lugged frame.  tusk pearl paint with subtle pink effect.  ritchey unicrown fork; the later cool fork with crown was way too flexy and rode like shit on the trail.  yeah, it was a production frame, but it was cool and  much better than the mb-zip tig-welded crackalicious frame.  everyone needed one of these, or maybe an mb-2.  really fun on the trails.  they really don't make 'em like this anymore...

haven on syfy, with julia stiles only good looking

it's a perfectly blah canadian melodrama, replete with the finest north-of-the-border soap opera actors who didn't make the cut for battlestar galactica.  it doesn't make a lick of sense, but at least it's not nearly as embarrassing as sanctuary.  the thing that haven has though is that really attractive actress emily rose.  sure she's got no last name, but she has a fantastic good-looking julia stiles vibe going that almost makes that show tolerable.

elizabeth warren running hard in springfield

natural campaigner and smooth on the road, elizabeth warren may turn out to be the happiest surprise in american politics since forever.  could she become the model for the future?  winning the future indeed.

sarah palin is getting exactly what she deserves

friedman on o'reilly

the preening, self-absorbed, ignorant stupidity is so strong that by all rights it should cause the fabric of the universe to collapse.  how the hell are we all still here?

o'reilly's on the taxes are strangling the folks now.  too bad he doesn't know that taxes are too damn low.

oil industry and fox news hate solar energy

watching fox news and the republicans in congress do the heavy lifting for the oil and coal industries attempting to stifle any alternative energy advancement in this country is like watching a rerun of an awful reality show that hasn't aired yet.  of course oil, gas and coal companies want all the free taxpayer money for themselves and don't want any wussie sunlight getting a piece of the action, so they are hoping that they can pound obama and the solar industry at the same time with another inane scandal.  david dayen has been all over this stuff on fdl with lots more on the hilarious antics.

the tell is pretty easy here: the republicans never bitch about the outrageous cost of nuclear energy.  fox news never spends 96 hours straight emphasizing the billions in direct subsidy of the oil industry.  the congress never holds subcommittee show trials exposing the state of the coal industry.  it ain't about the money or the well-being of the nation.
