Clear thinking from Chris Hedges, who clearly doesn't want to be associated with the throng of entry-level Democratic Party apparatchiks; he's not going along with the crowd because he feels that he cannot support the singular America political establishment.
I understand that some people want to vote for Obama, and feel that they must, despite the fact that Obama has failed to deliver on any sort of liberal, left, progressive, or populist issue, whether it is Lee Papa or a Big Tent Democrat's worry about the supreme court or pretty much everybody else up and down the Democratic Party establishment. I really do see it. The biggest reason to vote for Obama regardless of which side of the right-wing American political establishment you sit is that absolutely awful campaign that Mittens ran. His failures and his failings should be pushing Republicans to Obama at warp speed. Romney had to be a huge fucking waste of space to ruin the chances against Obama, and he did it! Those dicks that gave the hundreds of millions of dollars to the hapless Romney campaign should die of shame.
None of that changes the fact that Obama's foreign policy, health care policies, labor policies, Supreme Court choices have all been truly awful. The Democratic side of the establishment will never believe there is ever a time to not support their candidate, and the lowest of the low-level apparatchiks will always squeal with indignation at the suggestion that maybe they are not exactly acting in their own best interests or in the best interests of the issues about which they believe they care so so much by consistently supporting the right-wing Democrat who will act and govern as the right-wing politician they clearly are.
2012 may be the year that finally cracks our political system open if the Republican party implodes with the reelection of the hated minority Democrat. That would be the best outcome for all of us. A disintegrating Republican Party would allow the Democrats to fully occupy the rock-ribbed right wing of American politics with an unhinged racist rump of the what was the Republican Party keeping the teabaggers and god-bothering racist assholes busy with their bugfuck crazy hatred and ignorance. That opens all the doors for the hard-working liberals, progressives, lefties--some of whom say every election that we have to vote for the Democrat because there is no other choice--to do the work that they never ever get around to doing for some reason and build that choice and their own party that can finally represent the left-of-center in this country. Obama can do what Mittens could not: give us a little scrap of hope.
